This is Ariah. She went to a couple shows in 2005 and continued to do well in the show ring 2006. She got several Best of Breeds that year sometimes winning over dogs in the UKC national top 10. At one point she got to #3 in the nation. She had two litters in her career all are beautiful marked well moving puppies. When she was older she failed a thyroid exam so we have retired her to be on the side of caution. Regardless of how well she competed in the show ring we couldn’t show her in our own minds knowing she had failed a health exam. So far zero of her puppies (4 total) have had any thyroid issues. She is also the first dog ever to be reported to the OFA with an other than “normal” result in our breed. We believe that both passes and fail’s should be reported to the OFA and hope she will be an example for the rest of the breeders to be honest with the results of their breeding stock. It is by open communication and information provided to public databases such as the OFA to which breeders as well as researchers can use information to help improve future generations.
We now OFA ALL of our breeding dogs for thyroid, patella’s, and cardiac PRIOR to any breeding’s being set up. She is also a SHINING reminder for ALL breeders to test for THYROID YEARLY.

Nanuk was retired from our breeding program fall of 2005 we intend to keep one of his grandbabies in our breeding program. All but one of his babies turned out to have wonderful movement, and 100% of them were perfectly marked. There was a lot of pressure on us to retire him by the AKK "community" due to his longer coat and that he started to go easty-westy when older. He was retired to a nice family in Colorado and then was killed in 2006 in a boarding facility while they were on vacation. We will forever miss him. Of all his puppies 100% were short haired, perfectly marked, and only one has shown slight easty-westy (Mystique). We miss our baby and have lost respect for several of the “leaders” in the AKK "Community". They seem to focus the majority of their time putting other breeder's down instead of health certifying their own breeding stock and setting an example for all other AKK breeders. Please forgive us Nanuk for being weak when you needed us most. It WON’T happen again.
