After several years of collecting data from breeders & puppy buyers in the Alaskan Klee Kai breed we recommend the following health testing to be done for your Alaskan Klee Kai or any dogs used for public stud service. Please forward your results to your breeder so that they may help all the future generations of Klee Kai be healthy and happy puppies.

1. Join the Modern AKK Group for updates on health issues in our breed:
2. Test for Thyroid AKK Specific Via Dr. Jean Dodds
Hemopet does a thyroid screen which runs twice the tests of most standard labs. It is specifically for a Klee Kai Research Study. Breeders get a total of 8 thyroid tests for this package deal of $85. They will also submit the postive results (or negative with your permission) to the OFA registry. If you want your dog OFA certified as well have the OFA Thyroid Registry forms filled out and a separate check made out to OFA for $15 for each dog.

We highly recommend breeders to CERF their dogs, as well as obtain OFA
certification for Patellas, Thyroid, and Cardiac and do FVII blood
specific with PT/PTT (via Hemopet), CBC, and liver panel prior to
breeding. Reported in the Alaskan Klee Kai population: Keep
in mind ALL breeds have some issues. Be wise, breed wise, and stand
